MOSTLY FALSE: Most insurance companies will not increase nor will you lose your claims-free discount as long as you don’t have a claim filed or paid out.  However, insurance rating has become more complicated and if your insurance company finds out you were in an accident, they may raise your rates accordingly - whether you made a claim or not.  

Although that you may not have called your insurance provider to make a claim, the other person involved in the collision may be filing a claim. Realize that their insurance company may contact your insurance company about the accident if you are partially at fault which could possibly raise your rates.  It is always best to contact your agent and decide what might be best for you particular situation.
