MOSTLY FALSE: Most auto polices do not cover personal belongings in your car, but some do offer limited coverage in certain cases.  Instead, make sure your homeowner or renter’s insurance policy covers these personal belongings, which will provide better coverage.

If you regularly have expensive items in your vehicle such as a laptop or tablet, cell phone, video or photo equipment, etc., you should consider scheduling those valuable items to ensure their coverage.  Scheduling these belongings may also give you a lower deductible than your homeowner’s policy would.  Also consider taking photographs of those items.

Call your agent and discuss the options; the extra coverage cost is usually less than you think and will give you peace of mind knowing you are covered.
